International Karate Connection Association - Orange BeltCAPTURED WING

Escape against a hammerlock.

Technical Details:

Before the assailant torques your right arm up behind your back, re-grab his hand as you are stepping back with your left foot and shooting the left elbow straight back to the attacker’s face.  Adjust into a quasi-lunge stance as you arc your left fist and deliver a hammer-fist to the attacker’s groin.  Now bring the left foot forward slightly as an adjustment step as you are straightening your right arm out (still grasping the attacker’s hand). Immediately following the adjustment step, shoot a right heel kick directly into the attacker’s ribs.  Following the kick, pivot around clockwise into a left neutral bow while extending the attacker’s arm (now in front of you) and break the arm with a left inward block to the elbow, causing the attacker’s body to bend down in a low hunched position.  While still holding the attacker’s arm, deliver a right ball kick to the face.  Retract the kick and, as you are planting your right foot on the ground, check the attacker’s broken arm with the left hand as you bring your right elbow over and down onto the attacker’s spine.

Additional Notes :
  • This technique requires that you act as soon as you feel the threat of danger.  It is very difficult to escape a hammerlock once it has been fully applied.
  • The initial elbow to the face does not travel on an arcing trajectory, but rather comes straight back into the attacker’s face.
  • Be sure that you grasp the attacker’s hand tightly when you re-grab.
  • The right heel kick to the ribs should guideline right up the attacker’s arm that you have re-grabbed and are extending.  A viable target of the kick is the arm pit of your attacker.
